The mobile apps for Social Media “Snapchat” have gotten our attention lately, with its somewhat unique features and characteristics Snapchat has made a different approach to its user. Unlike Instagram that tends to be more about capturing a beautiful moment using pretty filters whilst applying minimalist feels to the apps, snapchat was made to be more emotional and natural. As the snapchat blog stated on their first post “Snapchat isn’t about capturing the traditional Kodak moment. It’s about communicating with the full range of human emotion — not just what appears to be pretty or perfect…… We’re building a photo app that doesn’t conform to unrealistic notions of beauty or perfection but rather creates a space to be funny, honest or whatever else you might feel like at the moment you take and share a Snap.”.
As for facebook, one of the biggest social media right now, with 4 million US dollar revenue, used by 1/8th of the world population, worth more than 100 million US dollar often considered to be the most successful social media. Facebook, has very different characteristics and approach compares to snapchat, facebook is pretty much about how you want to portray your world, that is part of the reason why latest evidence about facebook says, that sometimes the users are showing false or exaggerated impression.
Snapchat don’t keep any pictures or videos for a long period of time, the duration of the video initially was kept to maximum 10 seconds, after some period of time every picture and video will be terminated from the apps, while for facebook, every video and pictures uploaded can be put into an album and Facebook will keep it for as long as the user want to.
Facebook offers a platform where people can share anything about their life, photos, videos, notes and it’s going to be stored for a long period of time, the design also motivates people to gain many likes, unlike snapchat where there is no “like” features or even repost. In short facebook carries characteristics where users are more likely to post something that is considered nice, good, and appropriate whereas snapchat tends to be something more spontaneous and fun. There are still many more interesting features that each of this media carries, that can be further observed.
