Leadership studies have been buzzing through decades among academia which resulted into various definitions, types, and classifications. The variety of the studies and results are also influenced by the chronological time-frame. Based on The SAGE Book of Leadership, there are three chronological phases of leadership studies includes classical, renaissance, and modern phase.
The studies in the classical time-frame are mostly influenced by the stories of war and politics. These classical leadership studies known as the antecedents of all leadership studies, most of them are talks about the forming of leaders from ancient events such as wars and military (i.e Studies talks about Sun Tzu). On the other hands, renaissance leadership studies mostly talks about how Machiavelli gives another insight of leadership which quiet controversial in its’ time. Furthermore, studies in the modern time-frame mostly show about the shifts of leadership from heroic individual into a more rational system and process.
