The existence of differences in organization may somehow increase the degrees of politics among the employees inside an organization. Though the condition is inevitable, it is wise to contend that politic inside organization have both developing yet destructing effect to its member.
Talks about politics, there are various definitions put out by scholars to explain the matter. Vigoda-Gadot in 2003 contended that the politics especially in organization are related with employee’s actions to use their possessed power in order to strive their own interest upon others. Based on Kacmar and Ferris in 1991, there are three kinds of political behavior in organization.
The first behavior is the “general political behavior” which measures a more open or observable form of action to leverage personal gain. This general political behavior, also projected a more blatant action to strive own interest in organization. The second behavior is the “ambiguity in pay and promotions” practice in organization. This behavior refers to how does the practice of pay and employees promotions occur in organization. It was found that the more unclear the payroll and promotions system in an organization the higher the perceived of organizational politics inside it. The third behavior named as “get along to get ahead”. This behavior refers to a more covert action, and a more manipulative action in order to leverage ones favor. These behavior are common to find in many organizations. However, it is both leaders and employees responsibility to keep the political climate healthy and supportive.
