Last Friday, 19 Agustus 2016, International Business Management Major from Bina Nusantara University held a Research Method Seminar. With Mr. Yudi Fernando, Ph.D Head of Cluster/ Department Innovation in Operations Management from University Sains Malaysia as a speaker. He is one of the Editorial Board member from International Journal of Management Sciences – Research Academy of Social Sciences, and also reviewer from some respected journal such as: Jurnal Aplikasi Manajemen – Indonesia, International Journal of Productivity Management and Assessment Technologies – USA, International Journal of Productivity Management and Assessment Technologies – USA, African Journal of Business Management – Africa.
At first the session starts with discussing research method, then it continues to discuss about research topics. Several topics that Mr. Yudi came up with are: green business and supply chain. With more and more activities taking place outside of the enterprise in factories, distribution center, office and stores overseas, managers needed to develop skills in coordinating operations across the global supply chain. The field of supply chain management was born to manage the flow of information, product, and services across a network of consumers, enterprise, and supply chain partner.
A business needs yields from products that have been produced, consumers need a high quality product at an affordable price, and society needs a secure environment sans pollution for future generations.
Eco innovation should emphasize green solutions that aim at significant demonstrable progress towards the goals of sustainable development. Sustainability also can be achieved when firms more often produce more efficient products and are more responsible in using natural resources, including energy.
Eco innovation is the production, application or exploitation of a good, service, production process, organizational structure, or management or business method that is novel to the firm or user and which results, throughout its life cycle, in a reduction of environmental risk, pollution and the negative impacts of resources use and also energy use compared to relevant alternatives.
Suppliers are critical part of the supply chain with respect to smooth operations strategy. A firm can produce a high quality product with lower costs because of materials and components provided by reliable suppliers.
International Business Program is very grateful for this opportunity, this event give the students an opportunity where the students can learn not only from the theory in the books but also from experts in its particular fields. Hopefully in the future IBM can do another seminar with Mr. Yudi again. (N)
