Numerous dictionaries define creativity. According to William Shakespeare, creativity defined as seeing something new when you look at something old. In casual context creativity associated with “fiddling around” or “having fun with ideas”. However, at its core, creativity can be defined as to take action on an idea, which includes moving the idea into reality.
In this fast changing world, creativity becomes the core of a business. According to Roger Hurni, founder and chief creative officer of Off Madison Avenue in Phoenix, “Individual creativity is absolutely critical… Without our individual employees, quite frankly, this agency doesn’t exist. It is really the combination of the brainpower of everybody that really makes this place tick”.
Hence, all individuals need to be creative to be able to solve their day-to-day problems effectively. There are 10 simple things that you can engage with on a regular basis on order to boost and maintain your creativity, including:
1. Always carry a notebook & pen
Always bring / carry notebook and pen wherever you go, because you don’t know when the inspiration will come to you. Remember, when inspiration hit you, write it down!
Keep a journal. Write down ideas while you’re on the train or bus, or before you go to sleep. Doodle. Find a way to release your creative energy every day.
2. Keep your brain active
Limit the amount of time watching TV, because it causes your brain to go to neutral / passive mode. Do active activities such as learn a new language, do a puzzle, or brushing your teeth with a different hand. These activities will stimulate blood flow and strengthens the connections between nerve cells in the brains.
Make a plan that includes things you think you would never do or try. Try and do one each day and let yourself discover new skills hobbies and preferences.
Creative thinking is a sport that you must constantly condition for in order to be successful. Do not waste it. Practice it by going out and learning about how others stay creative, and exercise your brain with creative tasks every day.
3. Find reasons to laugh
You can be more creative if you let yourself have fun and relax.
Where people aren’t having any fun, they seldom produce good work
4. Seek out inspiration from all over
Expose yourself to new situation and experiences, do unusual things, out of your comfort zone. Read as much as possible, expose yourself to the creation of creative people.
You have to do things over than the things you have to do. Inspiration can come from personal experiences, events, movies, magazines, conversations or a road trip. Don’t forget to take a step back and make time for your passions.
